HKFP Lens: Pomp, ceremony and patriotism for Handover anniversary, as police deploy across Hong Kong
A once-traditional day of protest, July 1’s Special Administrative Region Establishment Day saw city-wide special offers and discounts, after an official closed-door event marked 26 years since the Handover.

The city saw thousands of police officers deployed across Hong Kong Island, whilst an 87-year-old man holding a placard calling for the security law’s repeal was detained by police in Causeway Bay, and later released.

Kyle Lam is a Hong Kong Baptist University graduate who has worked as a photojournalist and reporter since 2013. His work has been published by HK01, the European Pressphoto Agency, Bloomberg and Ming Pao. Lam is the recipient of several prizes from the Hong Kong Press Photographers Association and Human Rights Press Awards.
