China steps up ‘grey zone’ harassment of Taiwan, island’s defence ministry says
Since the 2016 election of Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, Beijing has ramped up military pressure, sending in warplanes and vessels around the island in what experts call “grey zone” actions — tactics that fall short of an outright act of war.

“Since the February 14 incident, they deliberately have six to seven vessels on average daily and as many as 11 vessels during the daytime,” Taiwanese coast guard chief Chou Mei-wu told a parliamentary committee, referring to China.
